Beluga Stein is taking a cooking class—and it's a real killer. This time she's traded her signature loud muumuus for herringbone pants, a blinding white chef jacket, and a toque even bigger than her ego. A well-liked chef is found dead and it's up to Beluga and her feline familiar, Planchette, to investigate the ingredients that make up murder. There's no recipe to follow, only the hope that her erratic psychic ability will hit the spot. Is it a supernatural entity that's stirring up trouble, or is it something far more dangerous that rendered the death? Beluga and Planchette can't stand the heat, but there's no way to get out of this kitchen while murder is brewing.

Reviews for the other Beluga Stein Mysteries

…on Bee Movie

"Planchette and Beluga Stein are two of the best new sleuths to grace the pages of the mystery novel!"
—
Doug Joyner, Spine Tingling Reviews

"Wendy Webb has created an excellent new series of supernatural mysteries
that combine great characters with comedy!"

—
C.J. Henderson, author of The Things That Are Not There

"Here's a book with something to please everyone. Thoroughly amusing!"

—
Chronicle, SF, Fantasy & Horror's Monthly Trade Journal

"Wendy is one of the most versatile writers around, and I love her style and sense of humor.
You can't go wrong with anything she writes, especially these innovative and unique humor-mysteries."

—
S. Antczak, author of God Drug and Daydreams Undertaken

...on Last Resort

"Beluga Stein is funnier than Hercule Poirot, sharper than Miss Marple, and looks better in a tent-sized
frock than Sherlock Holmes. Of course, she *does* have some help from her wonderful cat
—a talented, opinionated beastie who makes a perfect familiar to this wonderful new detective. In short, this is a great read. One part ghost story, one part mystery, and one part marvelous writing—which all adds up to a fast-paced, entertaining tale that will make you wish there was more of Beluga to love."
—
Cherie M. Priest, author of Four and Twenty Blackbirds

"I loved this book and cannot wait for the next in the series! Beluga Stein is the person we all wish we
could be, totally unafraid to be herself and totally unwilling to apologize for it. Her friends and the other characters in the book are eccentric but believable, as is the fact that a cat can be a familiar and ghosts can
be real. The plot is completely engaging and the book such an easy read that you find yourself wishing it would
go on. Thank goodness there will be more to come, based on the excerpt from the next book in the back. Certainly Beluga Stein will achieve stature equal to the other beloved, eccentric detectives such as
Ms. Marple and Hercule Poirot."
